MS Outlook 2003 hangs while forwarding or replying to an email

I searched for resolution and found few that can be tried as mentioned below:

1) Close MS Outlook. Find normal.dot via C:\Documents and Settings\username.surname\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates. Rename it to normal.old and restart Outlook. We use Microsoft word as email editor in Outlook and it might be corrupt. Check if this works.

2) Go to start > run and type regsvr32ole32.dll and open outlook, go to help and click ‘detect and repair’.

3) Rename files named outcmd.dat, extend.dat and frmcache.dat to .old and again run ‘detect and repair’ from help menu on MS Outlook.

a) Outcmd.dat file – this is responsible for holding all the customization and internal settings information for outlook.
b) Extend.dat file - the responsibility of this file is to include the cache of Outlook add-ins, selected in add-in manager.
c) Frmcache.dat – all the information about cached forms and pointers to the cached files are submitted to frmcache.dat file.

4) Scan OST file via scanost.exe. The location of file is C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033.

5) Disable add-ins in MS Outlook. Enable them one by one to check if it hangs due to a particular add-in. We can then disable that add-in in MS Outlook.

6) Open MS Outlook, go to Tools> Options> Mail Format
Uncheck ‘Use Microsoft Word 2003 to edit Email messages’.
