How to encrypt data inside a USB drive -

Need to have an empty USB drive.

Click on Create Volume

Select the default option and click on ‘next’.

Click next

Choose location of encrypted volume file – file needs to end with .tc (isn’t auto completed…..)
Name it as MyVol.tc

Once you have the file selected (should be on USB key or drive) hit next

Choose AES-Twofish as the encryption – keep the Hash Algorithm as default. Click Next.

Enter volume size – this should be total space on key/drive minus 5mb.
(For a 4GB drive, available space is 3.74GB = 3829 MB. Select volume size = 3820MB)

Get user to enter password. Click Next.

Click Format

Volume has been created.

Click Exit.

Click on tools menu, select “Traveller Disk Setup”

Choose USB drive path as “Traveller Disk Root Directory”

Choose “Auto-mount” as the autorun configuration. Select the encrypted volume as the “TrueCrypt volume to mount”. Choose “Open Explorer window for mounted volume”. Click create.

If you need to copy data from a computer or to a computer, double click on TrueCrypt folder and then click on ‘TrueCrypt.exe’ (in this case F:\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe).

From the list of available drives, select anyone say Y: and then click on ‘Select File’ tab.

Browse to USB drive and select the file created for encryption i.e. Myvol.tc and click ‘Mount’.

Enter password used while creating encrypted volume.

The volume is mounted. And you can access the data by selecting the mounted drive.

You won’t be able to access data by selecting or double clicking on F: drive. You will need to mount the drive first and to mount the drive you need to provide password.

Only authorized users can access the data inside. Virus can't infect encrypted files but if you copy infected file to the USB then nothing can be done.
